Pinch & Spell
Date: February-March 2025
Course: Conditional Design
Overseen by Bei Hu

Scope: Game Design, Conditional Logic, Coding

Program Used: p5.js

To further our understanding of conditional art, we were tasked to use PoseNet models to play with how the physical movement of the user can affect a visualization. In Pinch & Spell, the motion of fingers are tracked to spell out various words. Targeted towards children, the spelling game displays bright colors and typography, and includes sound effects to encourage early learners to have fun spelling.

Pinch & Spell includes 5 levels, with the number of letters increasing with each one. The words are pulled from a word bank, allowing the user to get different words each time they play. To aid the user, different hints will appear as time goes on.

Visual Look

To achieve a fun atmosphere suitable for young kids, I chose a rounded bubble typeface and a warm but bright color palette.
